Second leutnant Mark Pittoni, commander of Tenenza dei Carabinieri (Carabinieri's Platoon) of Pagani,
a town near Salerno, in Campania, was killed on June 6 in a shoot out with four robbers in the city
postal office. The officer in the postal office was found for discussing with the manager about the
safety measures against the robberies. The second leutnant Pittoni, not do put in danger the safety
of the clients and the employees, didn't extract the gun and shouted to the bandits "Carabinieri,
surrender you!" but one of the robbers responded shooting against the officer striking him to the
throat. Two carabinieri intervened in help of their commander and they shot against the robbers,
one of which was wounded. The robbers fled at scene, but they were arrested later few days by the
Carabinieri.
Second leutnant Pittoni succumbed to his wounds in hospital.
The killer of the second leutnant Marco Pittoni was a 17 year-old teen-ager, son of a boss of the
Camorra, the Neapolitan mafia.
Marco Pittoni was survived to his father, a former carabiniere, to his mother, his brother, also a
carabiniere, and his fianceè.
