Während seiner Freizeit besuchte Robert Taylor mit Freunden eine Gaststätte in
Ballymonea/County Anrim. Dort wurde er von einer Gruppe örtlicher Loyalisten
als Polizeibeamter erkannt und beleidigt und misshandelt. Als er die Gaststätte
verließ, wurde er von einem draußen wartenden Mob brutal zu Tode geschlagen und getreten.

While off duty with friends in a public house in Ballymoney, Co. Antrim,
he was recognised as a police officer by local loyalists and jostled and abused.
When he left the bar in the early hours he was attacked by a waiting mob and brutally
beaten and kicked to death.
